This is an introductory level course offered to any health care worker interested in learning about how ultrasound works and how it is currently used in medical diagnoses.

No experience in diagnostic ultrasound is necessary to enroll in this course. The course will be of particular interest to:

  • students planning a career and formal training in diagnostic ultrasound, and
  • to sonographers who wish to investigate the scope of current ultrasound applications.

This course has been evaluated by the Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (SDMS) and is approved for 10 educational credits or units (CME/CEU/CPD).

This course provides a comprehensive review of the major uses of diagnostic ultrasound.

Module 1:

  • Basic physics and equipment
  • Major applications: obstetrics and gynecology

Module 2:

  • Major applications: abdomen, superficial scanning, breast, musculoskeletal ultrasound, neonatal brain and spinal cord

Module 3:

  • Major applications: echocardiography, vascular ultrasound
