SPI is approved for 30 CME/CEU credits.
SONOGRAPHY PRINCIPLES AND INSTRUMENTATION (SPI) is a
user-friendly course written by an experienced sonographer and instructor who has helped countless
Burwin students pass the Registry examination. This course focuses on the essential aspects of
sonography principles, physics, and instrumentation needed to prepare for, and to confidently take,
the Registry Credentialing Examination.
Although the learning emphasis is on clinical knowledge, some theory is covered specifically for
Registry purposes and for which there is only minimal practical relevance. Students are expected
to know and understand some common equations but mostly from a conceptual or relational aspect.
This course provides ample opportunity to test your knowledge and understanding with numerous exercises,
four “open book” assignments and a final optional “closed book” examination. The final examination provides valuable
feedback on areas of strength and weakness which will assist in focused preparation for the Registry
Credentialing Examination.
This course has been evaluated by the Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (SDMS)
and has been approved for 30 continuing medical education (CME) credits. These CMEs are accepted by CCI as 30 CEUs and by the ARDMS, CARDUP and ARRT for 30 CMEs.
Successful completion of the Burwin SPI course
satisfies the ARDMS examination prerequisites
