This course is a clinically-oriented course on the current uses of ultrasound imaging and Doppler technology of the vascular system. The course describes the uses of real-time imaging, pulsed Doppler analysis, and color Doppler imaging in the various areas of clinical application. The basics of ultrasound physics and instrumentation required to perform a good clinical examination are covered in the course . Examination of the extracranial carotid system and leg veins are covered in detail. Abdominal, Obstetrical & Gynecological uses are covered at an introductory level. This course would be of interest to individuals who are learning how to perform Doppler studies "on the job" and who wish to have a structured curriculum to support and enhance their practical skills. To specifically prepare for the Registry examinations in Vascular Physics and Vascular Technology refer to course number 013 and 014.
The course is organized into four modules. Each module consists of structured notes, diagrams, review exercises, major references and a mail-in assignment. The course is totally self-contained. A specific textbook is not required to do this course.
This course has been evaluated by the Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (SDMS) and has been approved for 40 continuing medical education (CME) credits.
